What is the Blues song that inspired one of your favourite songs (rock or blues)? For me, it has to be Howlin' Wolf with Killing Floor (from 1964) and covered in Zep's Lemon Song, plus of course the Jimi Hendrix version and the Joe Bonamassa version (amongst many others). An upbeat twelve-bar blues song with an instantly recognisable guitar riff provided by Hubert Sumlin. Anyone else have a favourite classic that inspired a brilliant cover?
Blushes. Thanks mate!
Someone did a rather good radio show on the subject ;-)
I love the album 'Songs That Inspired Led Zeppelin'. So many GREAT tracks on there - including Levee of course.
I'll go with Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie's 1929 song "When The Levee Breaks" covered most notably by Led Zeppelin.
i think mine would have to be blues classic i'd rather go blind first recorded in 1968 by Etta James, and is still now been covered by various artists from blues right through to pop covers. Even Rod Suewart did it! my favourite is Probably the Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa cover always keeping the main body of the song with a different take on the tune, brilliant :)
