I was not expecting this. I truly wasn't. Good Nothings, a local band here in Barnsley, have been getting quite a head of steam in the last year or so but then, the virus stopped everyone in their tracks.
Well, almost everyone. Good Nothings decided to record and release a new single. And whilst I've enjoyed their music to this point, I think with this song the band have found their true calling. Right from that opening riff, I was completely hooked. Out came the air guitar and the foot tapping... and my head went, "OOOOHHHHHHHHHHH!".
And then Laura Briggs started singing.
This is a star waiting to be discovered. Her voice is velvet wrapped around a power buzzsaw. The song itself is a riff-rocker but with a commercial mix and melody at its base. It's like Rock Goddess married Toto. Trust me, that is not an easy marriage at all, yet Good Nothings make that mix sound effortless.
I cannot wait for this lock-down to be lifted so I can go see this band live, and I cannot wait to get new material from them either! As it is, the songs we have are in our library so the other DJs can play them, and are featured in our DeePlay autoplay system for when we mere mortals are resting or working elsewhere.
The single is available for download now- Download it on Spotify, Apple music, YouTube and all other streaming sites! And check out their FB page at https://www.facebook.com/goodnothingsband/
