One of the most evocative singles of 2019 (see review HERE) has finally delivered its video, completing the artist's stunning vision for the song. I speak of course about Images of Death by Stella Wembley.

Our Stella (as she's know around these parts) has put her heart and soul into this project, with the song itself delving into the loss of her own mother, but mixing that real life event with lyrical imagery inspired by the gothic literature of the 19th century and the dark, blood is life sexuality of the Hammer Horror movies of the 70s.

The video continues these themes, or rather builds on the lyrical imagery. Stella herself is often described as a dark siren, and she uses her dark beauty to full effect here, although rightfully shirking the raw sexuality of a 70s Hammer Horror, choosing instead to evoke the smouldering sensual feel of the Hammer Horror tv series of the 80s. Glossy noir to be sure, but still dark, richly layered gothic terror. As such, it is the perfect accompaniment to the song, choosing to be evocative and open to interpretation, rather than full of exposition and direct storytelling.

As with her single, the video is all Stella's work. The photography and video footage were all shot by Stella , who then spent months learning video editing software, not to mention new sound syncing technology. The end result is incredibly impressive, when you also throw in the fact that all this was achieved during lockdown Britain, which not only limited her location options, but effectively cut her off from direct assistance from video production firms and expert advisors.
