Motorhead by Motörhead from the Album Motörhead in 1977, the ultimate triple wammy. What can I say. This album, this band and probably this track changed my life. It's the first track you hear (assuming you put side 1 on first) and when you do, you just know you have the greatest band ever put together right there in your bedroom.
My favourite pop song, after much deliberation, is "One Foot In Front Of The Other" by the wonderful Gabby Young. There are many reasons why this song just edged it for me- the words are so evocative, the tune itself gets you hooked from the first note, and the album it is from is stunning in the whole. And on top of all that, Gabby dedicated the song to me at a gig. So yeah, call me biased, but that is the clincher for me.
I know this will come as a complete shock to people but my favourite rock song is Stargazer by Rainbow from the Rising album. EPIC in all senses of the word- a story about slavery, ambition, dark magic and ultimate failure and freedom; Ritchie making his guitar scream in agony, Dio singing his most emotive lines (I'm coming home!!!), driven by the rhythm created by Powell and Bain, with Carey's keyboards rounding off the sound beautifully, and an orchestra thrown in at the end for good measure.
I will have to come back about my fave pop song, cos I am still trying to decide (although I have it narrowed down to 3).
I can't pick a favourite rock track because there are too many to choose from but my favourite non rock track is In My Life by The Beatles, a brilliant song.

Oddly enough, I decided yesterday that Kate Bush would be video of the week on CFRXtra.

Favorite rock song would have to be Status Quo - 4500 times (live)
Favorite southern rock song Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird
Favorite non rock song Florence & The Machine - Never Let Me Go

Stairway to Heaven - Zep. Why? The day, over 11 years ago, that we nearly blew the windows out at the Crematorium at my wife's funeral.
Disco 2000 - Pulp. Just the best mix of pop and clever lyrics. Love it.
