We all have times when we are feeling flat, jaded and generally at odds with the world, but we also have a song that we reach for that either cheers us up, or gets us singing our hearts out (or bouncing around the room like a nutter) in those times. What is yours and why?
You can have more than one if you wish.
A couple of feel good songs that I didn't mention previously is Mr Blue Sky by ELO and Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles. No matter how bad I am feeling, when I here those songs I am feeling better straight away.
Best tonic on the planet is basically anything by these guys, but Permutations is a cracker.
If you haven't seen these guys live, you've not lived. And lovely people to boot...
Lots to pick from but i would say a surefire one is Led Zeppelin Rock & Roll
and Iron Maiden's The Trooper
Next up for me is the song FASTER from...
The song just blasts away from the first chord with a breathtaking riff that is then wrapped around by Sharon's breathless vocals, and the words are perfect:
I can feel that you've mesmerized my heart. I feel so free. I'm alive, I'm breaking out. I won't give in, cause I'm proud of all my scars. And I can see I've been wasting too much time. I go faster and faster and faster and faster and faster and faster and faster.
Oh and this album is one of the best concept albums of the decade.
For me, one of the best of Rory Gallagher's many great tracks that fills me with energy is Daughter Of The Everglades. As ever, he makes the guitar sing (on both the acoustic and electric sections) and the addition of Rod de'Ath on keyboards started his most prolific period.
So many to choose from, I have just seen the video for the new Judas Priest song and that is a great get up and go song (one to booked in for Iron Priest number 7). Speaking of Maiden, I love The Clansman as a get up and go song.
I have 3 or 4 songs that do the trick for me. The first one is Don't Stop Me Now by Shooting Star, from the album Silent Scream. Driving drum and bass, passionate vocals and a guitar riff straight out of the guitar gods guide to guitar riffs never fail to get me re-energised!
I have lots! I would probably have to go with Jukebox Hero/Foreigner as a starter! It’s just an amazing song lyric wise and coupled with the energy musically, it instantly peps me up and makes me happy! 🤩
Oh...and I play a mean air guitar 🎸!
