One of my most favorite cover versions is Emma by The Sisters of Mercy. Having taken Hot Chocolate's pop song, and turned it into a heart wrentching story. Loads of jangling guitars, with a heavy bass line it is totally awesome.
Having hosted the covers show i got to hear some really good cover versions. There are several that i really like such as Doro - Whiter Shade of Pale, Motorhead - Heroes and Gov't Mule - Simple Man. But my all time fav has to be the live Status Quo cover of Roadhouse Blues by the Doors
My favourite cover is Killing Floor by Joe Bonamassa from the live Muddy Wolf at Red Rocks album. That riff is so infectious and hits the spot every time. The Howling Wolf original ain't exactly shabby but the extended guitar solo in the middle that Joe does makes it for me.
My favourite cover is Jimi Hendrix's cover of All Along the Watchtower by Bob Dylan. From that opening dirty riff the song hooks you and the way Hendrix enunciates the words, it makes the song his from start to finish. In fact, the sign of a great cover is when you don't realise it is a cover! There's no doubt that Bob Dylan is a great song writer, but this version by Jimi simply walks all over the Dylan version. Great song!
